Mbumba happy to forget making runs, defend wicket

CHRISTOF MALETSKY

IMAGINE Finance Minister Nangolo Mbumba arriving at Parliament in a cricket outfit to present, no, defend his Budget.

Following Mbumba's Budget presentation two weeks ago, The Namibian's cartoonist Dudley Viall depicted the Minister playing cricket, being advised by one of his comrades to forget about the runs and just concentrate on defending.

"Although I am not a cricket player, I liked the idea. I appreciated that. That's what I am doing," Mbumba said yesterday when he replied to concerns raised about his Budget.

Mbumba also said due to the operations of the Defence Force, Namibia was so peaceful that "we can sleep within or without underwear" in our homes.

"My elder and late [former Swapo MP Nathaniel] Maxuilili used to say that," he said.
