13 years ... not 26

AN error slipped into one of the short court reports published under the heading 'Rapist and kidnapper gets 26 years' on page 3 of Monday's edition of The Namibian.

The correct information is that Uis resident Fillemon Goseb was convicted in the Walvis Bay Regional Court of the abduction and rape of an 11-year-old girl, with the crimes committed between January 9 and 11 2000, and that he was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment.

The two counts were taken together for sentencing, and he did not receive a 13-year prison term on each count as had been reported.

The error is regretted.
