NBC chief slams 'liars'

DIRECTOR General of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, Dr Ben Mulongeni, has dismissed reports that he was in the dark about cheques amounting to over N$100 000 stolen at the State broadcaster.

"On the contrary, I alerted the Police to the theft," Mulongeni told The Namibian last night.

In a report published in Friday's newspaper, sources were quoted as saying Mulongeni had only come to know about the cheque theft when NamPol detectives paid a 'routine visit' to the NBC offices in Windhoek on Thursday.

"That's a lie. It's malicious," Mulongeni said. The NBC chief said not only had he alerted the Police to the theft, but he had launched an internal investigation and immediately put in place measures to stop other cheques being cashed.
