Toilet blues haunt NBC

STAFF REPORTER

SOME employees of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) are disgruntled that the Corporation has been unable to buy toilet paper for staff toilets over the past few days.

As a result many have had to resort to using newspapers when nature calls.

A middle manager at the Radio Centre told The Namibian yesterday that the lack of toilet paper, mainly in male toilets, had compelled some NBC staffers to resort to the "bush system" while others had to travel back to their homes.

Others, said the manager who requested anonymity, used newspapers as a substitute for toilet paper.

Approached for comment, NBC spokeswoman Umbi Karuaihe-Upi said it was untrue that the cash-strapped, State-funded broadcaster had failed to acquire toilet paper for staff toilets.

"They are lying. There is toilet paper," Karuaihe-Upi said.
A spot check by The Namibian at the NBC's two main centres in Windhoek established that the male toilets, though spotlessly clean, did not have toilet paper.

The female toilets did not have the regular-sized toilet paper but had larger rolled paper similar to the type commonly used at petrol stations to wipe car windows and hands.

The complainants attributed the toilet paper crisis to the financial woes currently dogging the State-funded broadcaster.TIMES normal
