52 in court for 'fence revenge'

OSHAKATI - More than 50 villagers from Omafo village in the Ohangwena Region re-appeared in the Magistrate's court at Ohangwena on Monday on charges of malicious damage to property.

Public Prosecutor Carlo McLeod told Nampa that the villagers stand accused of destroying Neumbo Kanhalelo's fence and homestead last year after they accused him of enclosing a community water point within his fence.

According to the villagers, the enclosure prevented them and their animals from reaching the water point.

Kanhalelo has denied the claim, arguing that he had provided two entrance gates to allow access to the water point.

McLeod said the villagers' trial is set down for November 12 and 13.
None of the 52 accused villagers have legal representation. They are free on a warning.- Nampa
