MP rises to the occasion with erection claims

MAX HAMATA

A MEMBER of Parliament yesterday aroused lawmakers when he accused some wives of causing their husbands to lose their sexual potency through witchcraft.

Some male MPs banged on their tables in support as DTA-UDF coalition MP Phillemon Moongo alleged that promiscuous married women bewitched their husbands with African "juju" and herbs so that they could not maintain an erection.

Moongo was speaking during the debate on the Domestic Violence Bill tabled in the National Assembly last week by Deputy Justice Minister Albert Kawana.

He said the Bill must also address the witchcraft practices which were being used against men.

The controversial MP alleged that "some married wives (sic) engage in adultery, sleep around with other men, become pregnant from other men and say that it is their husband's children."

Moongo said men were also guilty of taking other people's wives "and never sleep at their houses which results in domestic violence. Their wives suffer due to the misbehaviour of their husbands ... that is why people kill each other ruthlessly."
