Heroes' Acre 'free' for now

WINDHOEK - People who want to visit Heroes' Acre can do so for free at present.

The multi-million dollar national monument on the outskirts of the capital was inaugurated on Heroes' Day, August 26, this year.

Director of the National Monuments Council, Tshikarepo Andjamba, told Nampa in an interview on Monday that people could visit the monument free of charge until the Council pronounced itself on the matter.

"It might take time to charge visitors [a fee] as a by-law has not yet been passed to allow the Council to do so."

He said legal drafters would be approached to advise the Council on the matter.

Soil taken from the mass graves of Namibians at Cassinga, Angola, and Oshatotwa, Zambia, has been placed at Heroes' Acre.

Heroes' Acre can accommodate 50 buses, 300 cars and about 5 000 people. - Nampa
