Separatist leaflets found at Katima

CHRISPIN INAMBAO

A PILE of pro-secessionist leaflets were found near Ngweeze Primary School at Katima Mulilo on Tuesday by a group of Police officers on a routine patrol.

A source at the town said around 1 000 leaflets featuring a black and white photograph of exiled politician Mishake Muyongo were found.

Muyongo has been blamed for a secessionist uprising on August 2 1999 when various targets at Katima Mulilo were attacked. Over a dozen people died but the uprising was quickly crushed by Government forces.

Over 120 people are in custody awaiting trial after being accused of involvement in the separatist plot.

The leaflet says "there is no room" for President Sam Nujoma in the Caprivi and claims Caprivi and Namibia are poles apart. It proclaims Muyongo as "our pillar".

Contacted for comment, Police spokesman Chief Inspector Hophni Hamufungu said he had heard reports about the leaflets, but could not give further details.
