AU action

WINDHOEK - Cabinet has approved the setting up of a committee to identify and screen possible candidates to serve as African Union (AU) Commissioners

The African Union Commission will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the AU and will be composed of a chairperson, a deputy chair and eight commissioners responsible for the portfolios of peace and security, infrastructure and energy, rural economy, agriculture and economic affairs.

In a media release from Cabinet Chambers yesterday, Cabinet recommended that the Union's aspirations for a gender-balanced Commission be taken into account. - Nampa
