Cabinet man mum on misconduct case

TANGENI AMUPADHI

THE Deputy Secretary to Cabinet has declined to comment further on the case of a senior civil servant accused of using his position to gain his firm and business associates a Government contract.

Steve Katjiuanjo, Deputy Cabinet Secretary, said yesterday he would not give further details about the misconduct charges against George Simataa, Under Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister.

Simataa has claimed that the charges against him were dismissed in July, but Katjiuanjo said earlier this month that Simataa is still to be formally presented with the allegations after disciplinary procedures were bungled.

"He has given his side and I have given you our side," Katjiuanjo said, adding that the public will have to wait until the matter has been finalised.

Simataa was charged for allegedly using his position as an alternate member of the Tender Board to help his company, Ewe Enterprises, secure a role in the lucrative distribution of State pensions.
