UN to send delegation to Great Lakes region and DR Congo next week

NEW YORK - The UN Security Council confirmed Tuesday that it will send a delegation to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and other countries in the region next week.

"The mission's essential objective is to give new impetus to the peace process and to the implementation by all parties of the Lusaka accords," a spokesman said.

Ambassador Jean-David Levitte of France will lead the Council delegation. It leaves on April 27 and is scheduled to return on May 7.

Besides the DRC, the delegation travels to Angola, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda. - Nampa-AFP
