Zim remains an area of concern: ANCANC secretary general Kgalema Motlanthe told reporters in Johannesburg that Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu-PF had committed itself in discussions with the ANC to general elections that "would not lend themselves to question". Zimbabwe's general elections are set for March. Motlanthe called on the leadership of ruling party Zanu-PF and the Movement for Democratic Change, Zimbabwe's main opposition party, to start communicating with each other, saying tensions in Zimbabwe were bound to rise if this did not occur. He was briefing the media on decisions taken at the ANC's national executive committee lekgotla from Thursday to Sunday in Johannesburg. The secretary general said the ANC would not contemplate any form of action against Zimbabwe, besides discussions with Zanu-PF to bring back stability. "Our discussions (with them) are open. (We have) made them aware that if they don't approach the elections well, they may actually create space for the undermining of sovereignty and the little stability that remains there," Motlanthe said.
