20 deadin Angola landmine explosion

LUANDA - Twenty people died and 27 were seriously injured when their truck hit an anti-tank mine on a road in southern Angola this week, the Catholic radio station Ecclesia said on Friday.

The blast occurred on Wednesday on a road between the towns of Mungo and Huambo, some 600 kilometres south of the capital Luanda, the report said.

Seven government soldiers who were accompanying the civilians aboard the truckwere among the injured, the radio said.

Separately, Ecclesia also said that four people had been killed and six injured onThursday when suspected rebels attacked a village in Bie province, also in the south.

It said that attack, attributed to rebels of Unita, occurred at Chivanga, a village 50km from the provincial capital of Kuito. - Nampa-Sapa-AFP
