Kaperu aims for world titleHELGE SCHUTZNAMIBIAN junior featherweight boxer Siegfried Kaperu is aiming for the International Boxing Federation world title after successfully winning his second professional fight in South Africa on Wednesday. The 21-year old Kaperu beat South Africa's Leon Duncan with a technical knock-out after two minutes and 10 seconds in the first round. After knocking Duncan down twice, the referee stopped the fight as the defenceless Duncan could not offer resistance to Kaperu's punches. "I was too smart for him. He came out swinging and tried to knock me out, but he couldn't match my speed and power," he said. What made Kaperu's victory even more impressive was the fact that he took the fight on short notice and had to move up to the featherweight division to take on Duncan. He was supposed to fight another opponent tomorrow but the fight was cancelled and Kaperu accepted the Duncan fight on a day's notice. Kaperu is now aiming for the IBF junior featherweight title, which he believes he can win after four or five more bouts. Kaperu's trainer Nestor Tobias said that his charge had all the skills to become a world champion. "He's got the talent and he works hard. He's got great handspeed while he's a boxer who can also fight," he said. Tobias thanked the Offshore Development Company and Shell Exploration Namibia for their support in financing their trip to South Africa. Kaperu also called on the private sector to support him. "With the necessary support I'm sure that I'll become a world champion," he said. Tobias meanwhile congratulated Harry Simon on winning his second world title last weekend. "It was a job well done. herifi was an awkward opponent, but Harry did what he had to do to win the title," he said. |
