Williams on wins duathlonATHLETES taking part in the first duathlon at the coast this year still managed to finish the event in good times despite a freezing cold wind blowing last Saturday at Swakopmund. The first senior male home was Chris Williamson who completed the 5km run, 30km cycle and 5km run in a time of 1:35:46. Mathew Hoeb was second in 1:41:21 and Vincent Swartz in 1:48:58. The first senior female was Carolla Kirchner with a time of 1:58:07 and Claire van Aardt and Christine Meintjes second and third respectively. The first junior male was Sergio Forbes in a time of 1:46:31. The next duathlon at the coast will take place in Walvis Bay on September 15over the same distances. The first triathlon event of the season will take place in October. An events calender will be available as soon as all the sponsors have reconfirmed their sponsorships. Meanwhile, the Swakopmund Triathlon Club held its annual general meeting last Saturday and the new committee looks as follows:Chairperson: Claire van Aardt; vice-chairperson: Rainer Horsthemke; treasurer: Kristian Woker; secretary: Tracey Rose; PR & membership: Hilli Horsthemke. The additional members are Willie Greeff, Chris Honiball, Hannes vd Merwe, Franspeter Ackermann and Tommy Forbes |
