Zimbabwe suspends accreditation of BBC journalists

Zimbabwe has suspended accreditation of BBC journalists who want to cover events in Zimbabwe accusing them of unethical and unprofessional conduct, Information Minister Jonathan Moyo said Thursday.

Moyo was quoted in the state-run Herald saying the distortion and misreprentation of facts on Zimbabwe would not be accepted and would not be allowed to continue.

"The time has come for the BBC to follow and uphold in Zimbabwe the same professional and ethical standards it follows in Britain. That is the bottom line, nothing less nothing more," Moyo said in a letter to Milton Nkosi, the British Broadcasting Corporation bureau chief in neighbouring South Africa.

He said a BBC report on President Robert Mugabe's speech at the opening of parliament Tuesday was distorted to "give a false impression that there is no rule of law in Zimbabwe".
