The team, which came second at the International Cricket Council Trophy competition in Canada, will arrive at the Hosea Kutako International Airport at 13h00 today, where a press conference will be held. Meanwhile, the Namibian Government has congratulated the cricket team for their outstanding achievement in a press release issued to the media." "The Namibian Government is proud of captain Danie Keulder and his Namibian cricket team who, through sheer hard work, dedication and determination managed to overcome all obstacles in their way to emerge victorious at the International Cricket Council Trophy Tournament in Toronto, Canada." "The team has done Namibia proud and each and every Namibian should encourage and support them in their preparations for the 2003 Cricket World Cup that will take place in South Africa." "For the Namibian cricket team to have ended up as one of the top two countries in the tournament is no mean feat, especially if the track records of some of the bigger teams are taken into consideration. The cricket team's laudable achievement should serve as motivation and inspiration to all Namibians that any obstacle and challenge can be faced and overcome with hard work, dedication and the will to win," the statement read. The Government also congratulated 19-year-old Burton van Rooi for his brilliant bowling performance against Scotland that secured Namibia its place in the 2003 World Cup tournament. Juniors beat German team NAMIBIA's under-19 soccer team beat TV Langen of Germany 4-0 in their Gothia Cup match in Sweden yesterday. Johannes Jantze scored two goals and Erastus Ndjavera and Otto Tjahikika one each for Namibia. On Monday Namibia lost their opening match in the Gothia Cup competition 1-0 against FK Bergen Nord of Norway. |
