Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - Web posted at 15:15:39 GMT NFA clears PRO over ticket scam THE Namibia Football Association has cleared Cassius Moetie of any involvement in a recent ticket scam and has confirmed that he remains the NFA's public relations officer. The scam was uncovered at Namibia's match against Nigeria on June 16. NFA president Petrus Damaseb disbanded the NFA's organising committee after it was alleged that some members of the committee had sold fake tickets, while others had kept some of the proceeds for themselves. Mr Moetie was under no circumstances involved in or close to the events that led to the expulsion of the entire organising committee. We would like to acknowledge that he has performed a crucial role in marketing NFA events and simultaneously maintained good public relations within the NFA family," the NFA stated in a press release." "All misconceptions regarding Mr Moetie have amicably been resolved between the concerned parties. Furthermore, it is agreed that Mr Moetie will carry on performing the role and functions of marketing and public relations for the NFA," it added. After the expulsion a member of the organising committee told The Namibian that they were very unhappy about being accused of stealing money, because many of them had worked for the NFA on a voluntary basis for more than two years for the "love of football. "Damaseb said yesterday that he was not up to date with Police investigations into the matter, since the NFA secretary general, Alpheus Gaweseb was handling the case. Gaweseb, however, could not be reached for comment. |
