Friday, July 13, 2001 - Web posted at 11:23:51 GMT New comer wins table tennis title NEWCOMER Ulli Lindnau of SKW won the men's singles title at the Namibian Table Tennis Championships last weekend when he beat Reinholdt Schurz of SKW by three games to two in an exciting final. In the semi-finals Lindnau beat Theo Beukes of NamPower Eliminators, while Schurz beat Melanky Farmer of NamPower Eliminators. The Western Suburbs duo of Ramon Hansen and Carven Izaks beat Ulli Lindnau and Adolf Mozny of SKW in the men's doubles final. Hansen and Izaks beat Reinholdt Schurz and Bjorn Musche in an exciting semi-final by three sets to two to reach the final. Gregory Schaffrath of SKW beat Reinhold Stanley of NamPower Eliminators to win the men's plate title. Bjorn Musche of SKW beat Elzeeno Farmer of Dr Lemmer in a thrilling five-set encounter to win the boys' under-18 title. The bronze medals were awarded to Nico Gorbach of SKW and Kenny Brits of Dr Lemmer. Bjorn Musche and Rudi Pluss of SKW then teamed up to beat Elzeeno Farmer and Clifford van Wyk of Dr Lemmer in the boys doubles final. Henrico Morgenroth beat Zenedin Nel to win the boys plate event. The girls' under-18 singles title was won by Melissa Resandt of M&K Gertze, who beat Michia Claasen of Rehoboth in the final. Claasen and Heloise Husselmann teamed up to beat Melissa Resandt and Elreza Bock in the girls doubles final. |
