Theron is tops at Tafel tennis tourney

JOHAN Theron reaffirmed his status as Namibia's top tennis player when he beat Nicky Buys 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the first Tafel Lager senior tournament in Windhoek yesterday.

Buys caused an upset when he beat Namibia's second ranked player J P Huish 6-4, 7-5 in the semi-finals, while Theron beat Kevin Wentzel 6-3, 6-2 in the other semi-final.

Theron and Andre de Beer then teamed up to win the men's doubles title after beating Huish and Wentzel 7-5, 6-2 in the final.

Theron won his third title of the weekend when he teamed up with Amanda van Dyk to beat Huish and Rihetta Swart 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 in the mixed doubles final.

Amanda van Dyk also continued her dominance among the women, beating Christine Mansfield 7-6, 6-3 in the women's singles final.

Van Dyk then teamed up with Rihetta Swart to win the women's doubles final against Jean Davin and Jan Davin 6-1, 6-0.

The men's consolation final was won by William Honiball who beat Dewald Barnard 6-4, 6-3, while Chrisna Gericke beat Annemarie Korf 6-3, 6-0 in the women's consolation final.
