Monday, February 26, 2001 - Web posted at 7:28:43 AM GMT Another quake hits parts of north India NEW DELHI - People rushed out of their homes as an earthquake hit the Indian capital and neighbouring areas yesterday. Press Trust of India news agency said the temblor also was felt in the northern Haryana and Punjab states. No loss of life or property was reported immediately. The meteorological office in New Delhi said it was compiling data about the magnitude of the quake and its epicentre. However, the tremor was not felt in Bhuj, a district in western Gujarat state that was devastated in a 7,7 magnitude earthquake on January 26. The Gujarat state government says more than 19,000 people died and 1 million were left homeless by India's worst earthquake in 50 years a month ago. - Nampa-Sapa-AP |
