Thursday, March 1, 2001 - Web posted at 7:55:03 AM GMT Cash loans manager shot dead THE manager of a cash loan company was shot dead yesterday in Oshakati by armed robbers. Ina Botha, Manager of Janeel Financial Services, had been collecting money from several banks at the town and was on her way to her office in her car when she was stopped by three young men, one of whom was wearing a military uniform. They tried to grab the money from her, but she resisted and the uniformed man shot her in the chest, the owner of Janeel Financial Services, Nelie Lewis, said. She died later in Oshakati State Hospital. An eyewitness told The Namibian that he saw two men struggling with Botha in her car and trying to grab bags of money, while the uniformed man stood outside. The man who was in his vehicle with his children said: "I came close to them and asked the uniformed man what they were doing to the woman. He angrily asked what I wanted with them. Then he pulled Botha out of the car and shot her in the chest with a pistol." " The eyewitness said the two men inside the car jumped out and ran in the direction of Oshakati State Hospital. They then entered a taxi and got away. The uniformed man ran in the direction of the army base. The robbers grabbed some bags of money, while others were left in the car. It is not known how much money was stolen. Deputy Police Commissioner in the North, Godfrey Khariseb, told The Namibian last night that the driver of the taxi was being held for questioning. The three armed robbers have not been arrested yet and the Police officer appealed for the public's assistance in tracing them. Botha was originally from Grootfontein where her family lived. |
