MARIA Mukwanailya Hishiningi, who is said to be 130 years old, died at her home in Okakekete village in the Omusati region on Thursday.

Up to the time of her death, Meekulu [grandmother] Hishiningi was believed by many in her area to be the oldest living Namibian citizen.

According to one of the late woman's grandchildren who yesterday came to inform The Namibian of her passing, Meekulu Hishiningi's first born, Simon Philippus, is alive and well at 101 years old.

Meekulu Hishiningi leaves five children and many grandchildren as well as many great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held at the Onawa Elcin Church today.

Residents of Okakekete village described Meekulu Hishiningi as a very soft-hearted woman who always had good advice for others as well as a person who helped others with their problems.
