Tuhadeleni honoured

THE Windhoek City Council has approved the renaming of the Shanghai Street Market in Katutura to the Eliaser Tuhadeleni Market in honour of the late Swapo veteran's role in the liberation struggle.

Informal traders along the Shanghai and Samuel Shikomba Streets in Katutura were given an opportunity to select a new name for their market and proposed Eudafano, Oshoopala, Eliaser Tuhadeleni and Samuel Shikomba as possible names.

The choices were put to the vote and it was unanimously agreed to name the market after the late Tuhadeleni.

Tuhadeleni was born at Omataange in the Ohangwena Region on January 1 1918.

He was a dedicated and committed freedom fighter who contributed to Namibia's liberation struggle.

He was also one of the first commanders of the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (Plan) at Ongulumbashe when the first battles against colonial rule took place.

Tuhadeleni died on November 28 1997. - Nampa
