Shipoh confirmed as MD
TABBY MOYO
TRANSNAMIB'S board of directors has confirmed the appointment of Dr Peingeondjabi Shipoh as Managing Director of the transport corporation.
Shipoh, who was formerly Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication, has been acting as the parastatal's MD since May 1996, when he took over from Francois Uys.
TransNamib Limited is soon to be transformed into TransNamib Holdings Limited, the holding company of the three recently-established companies within the parastatal - Air Namibia (Pty) Ltd, TransNamib Properties (Pty) Ltd, and TransNamib Transport (Pty).
Shipoh's appointment as TransNamib Holding Limited MD concludes the filling of the four top positions within the restructured corporation.
Former Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary and High Commissioner to Zambia, Andreas Guibeb, has been appointed head of Air Namibia, while long-time TransNamib senior manager Stinus Brink has been appointed MD of TransNamib Transport.
Shipoh is also the MD of TransNamib Properties.
Board Chairman Willy Klein said the appointment of Shipoh as TransNamib Holdings Limited MD represented an important step in the current restructuring of the corporation.
In his acting capacity, Shipoh was instrumental in the transformation of a corporation previously dogged by allegations of racism.
In his annual report for last year Shipoh states that he foresees brighter business opportunities for the TransNamib Group in the future.
The group last year suffered a net loss of N$47 million owing to huge operating costs incurred by the national airline Air Namibia.
Shipoh said TransNamib would devote special attention to the restructuring programme during 1998 to ensure the company was properly and realistically streamlined in accordance with the requirements of the Group's business operations.
